Cultural Structures and Archetypes
Mythic structures such as contemporary cinema and consumer culture are often the springboard for creating art. Here, Mandy Morrison will discuss how she reconfigures contemporary society and uses archetypes of gender to present both the physical and psychological world of conditioning, and the ways in which they converge and digress. Her aim is twofold: to present fragments of the culture in which these worlds collide and to engage the viewer as a participant on that stage. Mandy (and moniker mandymachine) is a multidisciplinary artist working in video, installation and performance. She is a recipient of several fellowships and awards and her work has been shown in a number of museum, gallery and festival venues in the US and Europe.
