Department of History

Department Head:   Professor James McClellan

The Department of History at Stevens Institute of Technology is a community of scholar teachers and students committed to historical inquiry at the highest levels. Our mission is to articulate the values of engaged inquiry and the perspectives that the discipline of history brings to understanding ourselves and the world today. We are part of and aligned with the larger community that is Stevens Institute of Technology, and we serve a broad range of students and colleagues through the research, teaching, and programmatic activities that take place under the aegis of the department.

As a Department of History within a technological institute, we are pleased to represent a certain expertise in the history of science and technology and generally to consider the scientific and/or technical dimensions of historical topics our faculty explore in other areas of their research. The Department is fully engaged with its local community and with citizens and other historians nationally and internationally. It welcomes fellow travelers.
