| Artistic Uses For Internet Utilities |
|---|
by Don MassoniInternet artists have often found new and unique methods for using and adapting tools which are available to the mass public. A great example is the modification of many popular browsers.
Works which can be seen experimenting with this type of user interaction are Wrong Browser on Jodi.org and Riot by Mark Napier. Both pieces rely on distorting the webpage being viewed
to give the user an entirely unique experience. The most intriguing part of Riot is how the user gets to view the remnants of the previous users' destinations. Additionally, many artists have taken
advantage of email as a method for dispersing their work and communicating across traditional boundaries. This includes conversing across the globe or by creating a form of chain mail which encourages a mass
amount of external interaction. Overall, the internet is an ever evolving device which encourages artists to experiment with new ideas and truly question how someone can and will interact with a work.
